Maidstone Housing Trust

Since it’s formation in February 2004, the regeneration of MHT’s Housing stock has been at the top of the agenda in their aim to bring all homes up to the Decent Homes Standard by 2010.

Following an exhaustive procurement process, and involving tenant representatives, three contractors were selected alongside Symphony kitchens to deliver new kitchens and bathrooms to over 3,800 homes across the borough under a partnering arrangement.

Crispin & Borst were awarded the contract covering the West of the Borough where work commenced in July 2004 with a three month pilot programme. At the end of year 1, we had successfully completed works to some 308 properties consisting of 289 new kitchens and 280 new bathrooms. All were completed and handed over, with MHT carrying out their own resident satisfaction surveys where 100 % satisfaction was achieved for all works undertaken in Year 1.

Involving the community has also been at the heart of our focus and to date we have recruited employees from the local area as well as an MHT resident who has joined our Resident Liaison Team. Community initiatives include our annual Residents Open Day, local recruitment and training partnership with Mid Kent College.

Through our core group partnering meetings held in Year 1, we have been able to identify, overcome and improve on design in addition to being able to identify year on year cost savings for future programmed works.
